Despite medical consensus regarding the effectiveness and safety of vaccines, 21st century anti-vaccination movements have emerged across the globe. Such movements have been associated with lower vaccine uptakes and corresponding preventable disease outbreaks. This project will investigate anti-vaccination in Australia with a focus on the role of religious factors. To do so it will analyse prominent counter-immunisation mass media, revealing how religious objections and persuasion techniques are utilised to fuel vaccine-scepticism.
